What else is in the data: vessel types Danish Maritime Authority AIS
Class A transponders, vessel-days across all sampled days. Only tankers are scored.

Dark vessels: what satellite radar sees Global Fishing Watch radar (Sentinel-1)
Sentinel-1 radar images ships whether or not they broadcast AIS. Global Fishing Watch matches each radar detection to AIS; a detection with no AIS match is a vessel that was not broadcasting at that place and time. Detections cover vessels above roughly 15 to 20 m of every type and depend on how often the satellites passed, so trends and shares matter more than counts.

The Danish straits, with strict AIS use, show the normal baseline. No radar detections are published for the Gulf of Finland.

Global Fishing Watch: Europe and the Middle East Global Fishing Watch
Does it see the ships that were later sanctioned? Combined: sanctions lists + Danish AIS + Global Fishing Watch
Ships seen at least once before their designation date, by data source. This is the coverage that limits any model.

Where tankers called: port countries Global Fishing Watch
Distinct candidate tankers with at least one port visit in each country, worldwide, 2024 to 2026.
